About

Lori Larson, MS PT/ATC

I am a South Dakota native from the Selby area who attended the University of South Dakota (GO YOTES!) graduating with a BS in Psychology/Athletic Training in 1999 and MS in Physical Therapy in 2001.  I began my career working in Sports Medicine at USD and then moved to West Central MN, where I worked for an educational cooperative for 10 years serving children in early intervention and school based settings, in addition to consulting with area therapeutic horseback riding centers.  Upon returning to SD in 2012, I spent 4 years working for an educational cooperative serving children birth to 21 in SE SD.  In 2016, I started my own private practice - Tiny Tots PT.  I am a self proclaimed 'continuing education junkie' and have attended many trainings including (but certainly not limited to): Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) Introductory Levels A, B, & C, Electrical Spinal Stimulation in Pediatrics, Task Specific Electrical Stimulation in Pediatrics, Kineseiotape Application/Use, Level 1 Hippotherapy, Ready Bodies Learning Minds, NDT baby treatment/handling, and am Level 2 trained in the treatment of pediatric postural asymmetries using the TMR Method ©.  I am a 24 year member of the Pediatric Section of the American Physical Therapy Association and the SD Physical Therapy Association and have presented nationally on the use of surface EMG on children with arthrogryposis, in addition to presenting more regionally on school based physical therapy services.  I reside outside of Canton with my husband, 4 children (ranging from 11 -19 y/o), and 1 Mini-Australian Shepherd.  In my 'free time', I enjoy traveling, camping, boating, reading, and watching my kids compete in their myriad of sporting events.

Testimonials

Parents Recommend

"Lori was our PT for the first two pivotal years of our son's development. I cannot express how blessed we were to have her work with him. I honestly do not think he would be doing as well as he is today without her skills! Forever grateful!!"

"I have seen her (Lori) in action when she would visit daycare to work with a child. She was willing to help educate the staff working with the child to make sure everyone was on track with the child’s needs and to help him reach his goals. I highly recommend Tiny Tots PT, Inc."

"Lori was my son's Physical Therapist for many years and we all loved her! She made the “work” fun for our son, and she was always able to get him to do the tasks he needed to do! He has right sided hemiparesis from a stroke while in utero, so Cerebral Palsy is his diagnosis! Once she started working with him he went from not being able to sit up on his own at 11 months to being able to do that, then crawl, pull himself up and eventually walk...at 18 months! (We were told by his neurologist at 11 months that he would never walk)... She gave us excellent tasks to work on with him, and changed it up every week to keep my son interested! She is the very best, and we were so sad when she moved! Anyone fortunate enough to live in her area and have a need for her services is truly blessed and in great hands!!"

"After we got home from ... after heart surgery, we started PT with our AMAZING physical therapist Lori. I was totally hesitant at first and nervous because having a kid evaluated is soo stressful (mama bear comes out) and as parents we take it personally…very personal and sometimes people don’t line up with your beliefs or thoughts. We did not have that with Lori, it was X’s skills on his time frame, and she was here to guide us as well! Her Moto was exactly what I needed to hear & she reminded me that regularly. SHE WAS LIFE CHANGING for me and X. Lori is the sole reason X does not have a barrel chest post heart surgery. We did all the massages, he wore certain therapy bands to assist. I look at his chest regularly and just smile because I know I aided in it but it was only because Lori taught me and I was very diligent in making sure we were compliant to her recommendations.

Lori was always about trying new interventions and she was always thinking about what was best for him and being so creative. We would post pictures of X’s latest equipment, bands and therapy tools and people were always like what is this?! There wasn’t too much we weren’t willing to try and I’m thankful for Lori for her assistance in that. Lori was also great about talking me off the cliff as certain goal dates would come and pass and we didn’t see the skill with it. Especially because X is stubborn and if he doesn’t want to do it he truly isn’t going to do it plus illness has always played a huge role for X and a barrier to some of his goals."
